Wednesday - I understand we're scheduled to watch the Blue Angels practice show, and then visit the air museum afterwards. And usually the pilots come to the museum after the show for a meet and greet, and signatures. For anyone interested, on the base is also the Pensacola Lighthouse and Fort Barrancus both very close to the museum.....but forewarned both can require a lot of walking and climbing if you go up the lighthouse tower. Also, unless special exceptions have been made for us, (everyone) will be required to have proper photo i.d., which will be required to be shown at least 3 times under the bases new security regulations.
Tuesday night - starting at 7pm, there is a (free)"Bands on the Beach" concert....usually playing our music ('60s,'70s and '80s). You can bring your own chair, blankets and coolers with whatever beverage you want......and you can get up and dance all you want!
Fun Things Off The Beach:
Shopping – Lots of shops on the Boardwalk, and along ‘Via Deluna’, PB main drag. Also, the historical district of downtown Pensacola has a lot of fantastic shops; and you get to enjoy the beautiful historic buildings of the ‘Seville Quarters’ district. Paul could give you a lot more….
Food – there are a couple 7-11s on the island. But there’s a Walmart Neighborhood Market just across the bay bridge in Gulf Breeze, as well as a Walmart 5 miles East of the Neighborhood Market.
Activities –
Walk/Fish on Pensacola Beach Pier……cost $1.25walk / $7.00fish. Equipment can be rented.
Ziplining in Milton (small town just East of Pensacola)
Parasailing – we like ‘Radical Rides’ because of pricing and customer service. But there
are a couple of other businesses who do parasailing, but also have
waverunners, and other water sports.
GoCarts – “For the kid in us"
Restaurants – Fall out for chow
Shaggy’s (Great Burgers)
Cautus Flower (Mexican Food)
Casino Bar & Grill (Burgers/seafood)
PegLeg Pete’s (Seafood), one of PB original restaurants….Go Early…..awaits can be 1hr+
Paradise Bar & Grill (Burgers/seafood), advertise best Bushwacker on the beach
Sidelines (Burgers, sandwiches, chicken wings, steaks), sports bar, my favorite is the Montreal
Christo w/strawberry preserve
Crabs (Seafood/steaks/burgers), our favorite restaurant on the beach, great beach atmosphere and
give you large portions. And every day they have a drink of the day(regular size, not
watered down). And a ‘Death by Choclate’ cake large enough to share with 2-4 people.
Flounders (Seafood/burgers/steaks), restaurant is bayside across the street from Crabs, again
large portions, atmosphere not as cool as Crabs
Hooters (everyone knows what you get at Hooters), bayside on the Boardwalk, they say they have
the best legs on the beach (chicken legs that is)
Castaways (Burgers/sandwiches), bayside on the Boardwalk, ok food and service, nothing to write
home about
Hemmingways (Steaks/seafood), very up-scale, with higher prices
Bamboo Willies, oldest bar on the beach, with great entertainment
McGuire’s (Steaks/seafood/burgers/sandwiches), restaurant is in Pensacola, great Irish pub,
great food/great atmosphere, property must be worth a million bucks ‘cause that’s
probably how many dollars they have stapled to the walls and ceilings
Hope some of this helps. Like I've said, we keep coming back to PB because we love it so much, and I think everyone else will too. And September after Labor Day is be best time to go..most vacationer have gone home, all the restaurants and activities, and still warm w/o the hot summer heat.
ALSO:
Our own Kevin Moley called me last week and invited our members to attend Echo 2/3's reunion at Camp Lejuene:
This reunion is the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Hill Fights on the DMZ.... Bravo Battery fired many fire missions in support of these operations..
Find attached information:Some Other Thoughts:
Per our conversation; and on behalf of Bill Smith, President of the Echo 2/3
association, Captain John Eller and myself, we wanted our Bravo Battery
comrades in arms to know they are most welcome to attend the Echo 2/3
reunion, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Hill fights at Khe Sanh.
Bravo Battery provided vital artillery support that saved many Marines lives
and killed countless numbers of NVA! We would be honored to welcome any
Bravo Marines who would be able to attend. Captain Eller has worked long and
hard to put together a spectacular reunion. We hope many of our Bravo
comrades will be able to attend!

Kevin E. Moley
